It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Verna Adeline Campbell (née Botham), on April 1, 2025, at the age of 94. Verna was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Campbell, in 2023 and is survived by her children, Cecilia (Reg Grasser), James “Jim” (Gail McCarthy), and Allan (Bonnie Lou King), as well as her grandchildren, Keely (Derek Haines), Ryan (Cara Thompson), and Mitchell Grasser (Anthony Matkovic), Twyla and Brent Campbell, and great-grandchildren Jackson Haines, and Colby and Gunner Grasser. She is also survived by her siblings, Margaret Wager, Hazel Wager, Ron Botham, and Maureen Carlson. Verna was predeceased by her parents, Harold Botham, Emma Ladd, and stepfather Ray Ladd, as well as her sister, Audrey McEwen, and her in-laws, Jack and Lena Campbell, Murray and Mary Campbell, Irwin and Alma Brown, and Hugh and Doris Imrie. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Born on December 21, 1930, in Parry Sound, Ontario, Verna was the eldest of six children. Born Deaf, she met every challenge with determination and triumphed. She married Cecil Campbell in 1953, and together they built a loving home in Sundridge, Ontario. Verna was a devoted homemaker, known for her passion for gardening, baking, and caring for both her family and nature. Her gentle, nurturing spirit was adored by family and friends alike. In her later years, Verna found comfort and regained her faith at the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf, where she spent her final years surrounded by love and care.
The family is deeply grateful for the support Verna received at BRHD and finds comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Cecil. Verna’s warmth, kindness, and love will be forever cherished. We will miss her big “Verna” hugs and smiles.
Family will receive friends at the Opatovsky Funeral Home- Moore Chapel on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 6-8 pm and Friday, April 11, 2025 from 11 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm. Spring burial will take place at Strong Cemetery on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11:00 am. If desired, donations to the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf, specifically to the Home of the Deaf in Barrie or the Sundridge Lion’s Club would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
