RITA ALICE NETHERTON
Of Sundridge

Rita Alice Netherton of Sundridge, ON was born on a farm near Shawinigan Falls, Quebec September 17, 1919. She moved to the New Liskeard area at age 4 where she was the darling of seven brothers, all of whom have predeceased her. She lived happily all her 99 years in the Near North.
Rita met the love of her life, Earl James Netherton, at a dance in the years just before WWIl and after marrying, raised their baby daughter while he served overseas. Their post-war life in the Tritown area was a great happiness as they welcomed 4 more children, spending busy days teaching them to garden, to see beauty in the ordinary, and to enjoy the skills of self sufficiency. Rita and Earl loved the outdoors and built a cottage together where the whole family spent glorious summers and falls. Later, they also owned a cottage near Sundridge, where they enjoyed a retirement that included almost 25 years as snowbirds in the Clearwater, Florida area. Rita and Earl were devoted to each other for over 65 years before his passing in 2006.
Rita will be missed and cherished in the hearts of her children: loving daughter Linda (Melvin), Sundridge, three strong sons, Dennis (Waldete), South River, Ron ( Diane), Whitefish ON, John, Haines Junction, YT, and adoring daughter Betty (Bill) Waverley, NS. She was a delighted and faithful Grandma to 10 remarkable grandchildren and 13 wonderful great grandchildren.
After a brief illness in recent months, Rita passed away peacefully Sunday morning September 23, as she always lived to be, surrounded by her doting family. The family is so grateful to staff at North Bay Regional Hospital, both in the ER and on D3, especially nurses Phil and Cari-lyn.
Family and friends will gather for a funeral service on Wednesday, Sept 26 at 10 a.m. Zion United Church, Sundridge with Rev. Sandra Jenkinson officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be welcome.
Arrangements entrusted to the Opatovsky Funeral Home - Moore Chapel, 9 Paget Street in Sundridge.
