Died peacefully at Huntsville Hospice on Friday, February 7th, 2020.
Estranged husband of Thiressa Tavares, former spouse of Sharron Marentette (nee Johnson) and predeceased by his wives Genevieve ‘Jenny’ McIntosh (nee Hunter) and Hilda McIntosh (nee Mitchell).
Father to Robert (Jean), Charlie (Kim), Lynn, Ethel Marshall (Jack), Norma Jean McInnes (Sean), Roy Jr. (Theresa), John (Moira), Pam Kenel (Mario), Bruce (Fermina), Stewart (Judith), Deborah, and Douglas.
Grandfather to Kelly (Tyler), Darryl, Heather (Bob), Dale (Lana), Adrian, Hilda, Amy(Brian), Jeff (Kim), Jessica (Ted), Sarah (Keith), Jennifer (Lawrence), Danielle(Randy), James, Sarah (Derrick) Jeremy (Emma), Bill (Leesa), Jessi (Piotr, Maggie, Nathan (Mandi), Daniel (Terri), Taylour (Paul), Parker, Mikayla, Alexis, Kaylie, Breann, and Lexi. Great Grandfather to Alex, George, Trevor, Angus, Andrew (Tyler), Michael, Erlin Jr.,Mason, Liam, Sidney, Maxwell, Deegan, Riley, Lincoln, Charlie, Timmy, Matthew,Lauren, Audrey, Leah, Logan, Zander, Emma, Owen, Marlena, Azlo, Curtis, and Sydney. Roy is survived by his sister Jean Jefferson (Mike), predeceased by his sister Norma Tuttle and her husband Gord, by his daughter Norma Jean McInnes and her husband Sean, and his parents Robert Burns and Ethel May McIntosh (nee Lounsbury) and will be remembered by all of his nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Roy was a published author of books, magazine articles and short stories. He was Born in Fruitland Ontario and educated in Stoney Creek, near Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and lived and worked for extensive periods in Labrador, Manitoba, Ontario in Canada and Western New York State USA and most recently in the tiny country of Belize in Central America. More than anything else Roy loved to fly small airplanes and earned his
pilot licence at age 13 and was ready to sign up for the war efforts with the Royal Canadian Air Force, he enlisted and was sent to Ottawa. He was a flying instructor for over 50 years, owned and operated many various planes over the years, including building his own planes and maintaining them. His all time favourite airplane was the Piper J- 3 Cub.
Roy will be interred in the Emmanuel United Church Cemetery, Emsdale
A celebration of Life for Roy will be held this summer in Emsdale.
Private arrangements have been entrusted to the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Dempster Chapel, 210 Ontario Street in Burk’s Falls.
