ANN NORBERTA GAUPHOLM (WHALEN) Of Kearney Peacefully at home in Kearney, Ontario Thursday January 23, 2014. Ann, best friend and mentor to Edwin and her cat of 14 years, Whiskey, left us in her 62nd year with sisters Maris Hatherly, Hilary Gallacher (Gerry), Nancy McKinnon (Don) and niece Jackie Hatherly by her side. Many thanks to sister Florence Waddell in Charlotte, GA and nephews John Waddell and Chris Hatherly. Sister to George Whalen in Glace Bay, NS. Step mother to Grant and Karin of Bradford, Kevin and Yetta and Melanie and Dan all of Richmond Hill. A good old east coaster from Glace Bay, NS, daughter of Agnes (McLelland) and William Whalen. Fondly remembered by many family members. Thanks to all our friends in Kearney for their love and kindness. Ann was successful at any venture she tackled, be it retail, engineering, gardening or just accompanying her husband fishing. Ann loved her life in Kearney, as president for 4 years of the horticultural society, a dedicated member in her book club, sharing her love of reading with great friends. Special thanks to her VON nurses Barb, Joy, Pam and Dr. Kwiatkowski who made her last days comfortable. Arrangements are being handled privately with the family and have been entrusted to the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Dempster Chapel, 210 Ontario Street in Burk's Falls. A service for family and friends to celebrate Ann's life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
